In Today’s Episode, we’re getting into a word our nation needs right now. We’re talking about praying through the chaos and praying for our loved ones, our brethren, and yes, even our enemies and oppressors. I keep it a hundred with y’all: turning the other cheek is HARD when that right hand comes back like a reflex. That’s work. That’s the assignment. And I’m sharing my grandmother’s story, a praying woman who still suffered and the surrendered prayer that keeps a heart from going cold: “Let your will be done.”
And we’re not the first ones given this assignment. David prayed for Saul while Saul was hunting him down, sparing his life when vengeance was right there for the taking. Jesus prayed for His enemies WHILE hanging on the cross: “Father, forgive them.” And Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. faced jail cells, bomb threats, and hatred face-to-face, yet still prayed for the very people who wanted him silenced. They didn’t do it because it was easy. They did it because praying for your oppressor releases YOU from the poison and puts justice in God’s hands, where it belongs.
Lastly, I also want to thank each and every one of YOU for helping us in celebrating our major milestone of 600 episodes of Cousin Ed’s Corner. The comments, the DMs, the well-wishes… this can’t be done without you, FAM. But we’re not stopping to admire the view. This Thank God For Everything Friday, I’m challenging the Corner to make the next 600 episodes our biggest season of community yet.
Drop me a comment and tell me what YOU’RE thanking God for this week, and share how you’re working on showing compassion in a cold world!
