On this Corner Connection, we’re taking a trip back in time to the summers that MADE us. It all started with a conversation with my son about my childhood — and next thing you know, I’m right back on Flatbush Avenue in the 80s. Playing in the summer heat and runny in the Johnny Pump. Collecting cans at the Junction for five cents apiece to get my candy money. This isn’t just nostalgia — it’s about growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and the independence that shaped who we became.
And you KNOW I had to take y’all down south too — the overnight drive with Wonder Bread and chicken in brown paper bags, South of the Border fireworks, Grandma’s dirt road in South Carolina under the stars. I got goosebumps just telling this story today.
