On this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on a real conversation I had with my dad, and honestly, one I'm still working through. We're two different people. He loves the yard and gardening, and me, I love my computers and a whole different set of passions. When he asked me to care about what he cares about, "I don't care" slipped right out of my mouth, and let me tell you, those three words landed a lot harder than I meant them to.
So on today's show, I think out loud with y'all about how we express our real priorities without dismissing the people we love. There's a difference between "I don't care" and "it's just not my priority right now," and finding that language can protect a relationship, a friendship, a parent and child, and yes, a whole lot of hurt feelings. I get into our blind spots, the shared list my dad and I are building together, and a question about him that stopped me in my tracks.
This one is honest, it's a no judgment zone, and it's for every super woman and super man out there who feels like folks keep piling things onto your plate. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is step back and name what your priorities really are.
