In today's episode, we're diving deep into a moment that had me fired up and inspired - the return of Brooklyn's own Iron Mike Tyson to the ring at age 58! This episode isn't just about a washed up boxer. We're talking about transformation, about having the courage to step back into your arena after 27 years, about knowing when to hold back and when to push forward. As a "Brooklyn Boy" myself, watching Mike's journey hit home in ways I couldn't have imagined.
I'm breaking down not just what we saw in the ring, but the bigger picture - how legends evolve, how champions become mentors, and how sometimes the biggest victories come from showing up and inspiring others. Whether you're 28 or 58, this episode has something that's going to resonate with your spirit.
We're diving into what it means to transform yourself, to be moldable like IRON, and to understand that sometimes the biggest impact we can have isn't about showing our full power - it's about using our experience to light the way for others. I'm getting real about age, about challenges, and about what it truly means to give back to your community.
This episode is especially meaningful to me because it's about more than just one fight or one fighter - it's about all of us who are out here trying to reinvent ourselves, take on new challenges, and make a difference. So come through, family, and let's get into this conversation about transformation, inspiration, and the power of showing up.

This isn’t just any conversation—it’s about why young people, especially, need to step up and make their voices heard. I’ve always believed that voting is one of the most impactful things we can do to shape our future, and it’s a right we should never take for granted.
We dive deep into the mindset of young voters, exploring why some feel disconnected from the political process and what we can do to change that. EJ brings that raw, unfiltered perspective that only our youth can provide, sharing real conversations he's had with his peers about voting and civic engagement. We tackle everything from student loan debt to police reform, breaking down why these issues matter to the younger generation.
What makes this episode special is the honest father-son dynamic we bring to the conversation. We don't just talk about what's happening in politics – we discuss how families can bridge the generation gap and have meaningful discussions about civic responsibility. EJ opens up about his journey from being a first-time voter to becoming an advocate among his friends.
I'm especially proud of how we address the misconceptions many young people have about voting and the impact their voice can make. We talk about the declining influence of celebrity endorsements and why personal research and understanding are more important than ever. EJ shares some powerful insights about what actually motivates his generation to get involved in the political process.

Friday Oct 25, 2024
In this episode of Cousin Ed's Corner, we talked about something that’s been on my heart heavy for a long time. Today, I had a meaningful day at the polls with my mother, and it got me reflecting on the importance of family, faith, and those small, precious moments we sometimes overlook. I’m sharing these thoughts with you because I believe that by appreciating each day, honoring the rights we have, and cherishing the people around us, we can bring more peace and positivity into our lives.
This episode also goes deep into why our voice matters and why voting means a lot to me. I’m reminded of the struggles many people went through so we could have this right. There were generations before us who sacrificed so much, and when I step into that voting booth, I’m honoring them and the legacy they left behind. When My Sistah Wins We All Win - Dr. Athea Vanzant 'The Essence Of Poetry'
Wednesday Oct 09, 2024
Wednesday Oct 09, 2024
In this episode, I'm honored to have the amazing Dr. Athea Vanzant joining us today. I must say, this Sistah is something special! She's a published author, poet, mental health advocate, an educator, and just an all-around inspiring individual. She's using her God's given gifts to make a real difference in people's lives each and everyday.
As we sat down we discussed all kinds of things in this episode, from her childhood growing up in the church to her journey as a poet. Dr. Vanzant -aka- Essence has a beautiful way with words – she calls it the dichotomy of "soft and strong," and let me tell you, it's powerful stuff. She's even written two incredible books, "47 Seconds" - a collection of love poems that'll tug at your heartstrings - and "Parenting, Anxiety and Little Ones," a 31-day Journal to help parents navigate these challenging times.
We also dove into something that's really close to Dr. Vanzant's heart 'Mental Health Advocacy.' She's doing some incredible work to reduce the stigma, increase access to resources, and support folks who are struggling. She's even the Director of Mental Health and Wellness for the Galaxy of Poets, an organization doing amazing things in the community. We talked about all of that, plus some exciting events she's got coming up, like her annual "Essence of Poetry" show and her mental health retreat that sounds absolutely incredible.

In this episode, I take you on a journey—a personal one—where I reflect on how divine intervention and mentorship have shaped my life in ways I never fully realized until recently. You know, sometimes we go through life so focused on our goals that we forget to look back and see how far we’ve come. Well, that’s what happened to me when I stumbled upon an old yearbook, which took me back to a pivotal time in my life. I want to share that moment with you and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
Today we look back on about one of the most influential figures in my life: my middle school teacher, Mr. Bradley. He wasn’t just a teacher—he was a mentor, a guide, and in many ways, an angel that God placed in my path. Mr. Bradley saw potential in me that I didn’t even see in myself He changed my life's direction. His advice about using basketball as a tool, rather than letting it use me, completely changed my outlook everything going forward. I’m excited to dive deep into how his mentorship steered me not just in sports, but in my professional journey as well. He was truly my Guardian Angel!!!
We’ll also explore how God works in mysterious ways, guiding us even when we don’t realize it. From my time on the basketball court to my current career in IT, I’ve come to understand that the doors that opened for me were all part of a bigger plan. Sometimes, we don’t understand why certain things happen until we reflect on them later, and that’s a powerful realization I want to share with you all. I hope this episode inspires you to recognize the angels in your life and the doors that are waiting for you to walk through.
So, grab your headphones, get ready, and let’s dive into this reflection on faith, mentorship, and the unexpected ways life guides us. Whether you’re navigating your own challenges, looking for inspiration, or just curious about the twists and turns of my journey, I know you’ll take something valuable away from this conversation. Trust me, this is one episode you won’t want to miss!

In this episode, we're gonna dig into something we can all use a little more of in our lives: God's Grace. You know we all say TGIF every Friday, but over here at Cousin Ed's Corner, we believe in Thanking God For Every single day! That's right, from Monday - Sunday, it's important to recognize the His blessings in every moment.
Today's episode ain't just about praising God in the good times. It's about recognizing that even when things get tough, God is still good. I'll be sharing a story about my amazing grandmother and how her faith inspired me during her battle with cancer. It's a powerful reminder that no matter what challenges you're facing, you can find peace and strength in your faith. Remember, you're never walking through life's trials alone.
We're gonna talk about how God is always there for us, like a protective umbrella shielding us from harm, a guide leading us through the maze of life, and a strong, unwavering rock we can always lean on. He's with us every step of the way, and sometimes we just need to remember to open our hearts and recognize His presence.
